February is a cold winter month, so what better way to celebrate than with an ice dragon. Krysta Valanche is a dragon from the den of Iglacia. The ice dragons have lived in harsh frozen environments for millennia and it has kept them safe from humans for all that time.
Now however, a great evil threatens earth. Only dragons and their Synergy Knights will stand a chance against the monsters and armies of evil from beyond the portals, the Darkbrands. So, Krysta left the safety of her den and took on a human form so she could bond with a dragon rider and save the earth. Pretty noble huh?
Krysta is an invaluable member to the team. She quickly became a main character and (maybe) love interest for Rome. Rome being new at dragon and Krysta being new at human, they start to become friends when Krysta first appears in book 2 of the series Riders of Fire and Ice. Her ice abilities are powerful and she is also very clever in solving problems quickly. Krysta is a compassionate and emotional balance for her chosen rider, who, without her, would be a total snob. Together they are quite a formidable force.
I may be slightly partial to ice dragons and shape-shifters, but she is my favorite dragon in the Talisman series, so far. I recommend checking out the whole series from the beginning. The way that Brett combines our real world with magic and dragons is so much fun. Plus, its great for any age to read.
And as for Krysta, I think she earns the title of queen of ice over Elsa any day.
